Lately, all we're hearing about John McCain's campaign is what's wrong with it. Today, the perception of John-McCain-is-going-to-lose-Mondale-style was only reinforced by the latest NYT-CBS poll, which has Obama leading McCain by 14 points (53% to 39%) among likely voters.
Well, I say "ENOUGH!" with the negativity! Time to scour the headlines and find the things that are going right for McCain's candidacy*:
- McCain is kickin' ass and takin' names in Oklahoma, where he leads Obama by 31 points. (And he's still ahead in Georgia, too!)
- White House officials aren't openly saying that Sarah Palin should leave the GOP ticket. They have the decency to keep it to themselves.
- Slate has a point-by-point analysis all ready to go just in case McCain wins. So . . . someone must have thought that it is somehow conceivable after all for McCain to be victorious in November. All hope is not lost!
- Sarah Palin totally doesn't look like a racist next to Rush Limbaugh, who claimed today that black people are in a massive multi-generation plot to raise angry, militant black children into angry, militant black adults.
- There's no video linking McCain to a radical fringe secessionist group.
- So what if Christopher Hitchens endorsed Obama? Everyone knows that he's just an angry, contrarian drunk. Yet another person with a suspect reputation associating with Obama!
- The son of conservative deity William F. Buckley was forced to quit his job at the National Review (the publication his father founded) after writing an endorsement of Obama for another publication. See what happens to traitors? Take that, you heretic.
- Campaign supporters are only shouting "Kill him!" (in reference to Obama) at Palin rallies, not the ones McCain attends.
- Hey, Apple's coming out with a really cool-looking redesigned MacBook! This is good news for McCain because . . . um . . . maybe he can learn to use a computer on the hippest new laptop??? (And bad news for me, because it's only a matter of time before my white MacBook looks passe.)
Uh, that's all I could find in an hour and a half of searching. (I tried to find more -- really, I did.)
