A: They're all landmark Supreme Court decisions that Sarah Palin can't name.
Maybe I'm being too harsh. After all, the video has yet to be released. (Note to CBS: RELEASE IT!)
However, when asked about Supreme Court decisions, Palin apparently couldn't discuss a single decision besides Roe v. Wade*. (The list I included in the title is far from exhaustive, seeing as she couldn't name ONE other case.)
Surprise, surprise.
According to The Politico:
Of concern to McCain's campaign, however, is a remaining and still-undisclosed clip from Palin's interview with Couric last week that has the political world buzzing.
The Palin aide, after first noting how "infuriating" it was for CBS to purportedly leak word about the gaffe, revealed that it came in response to a question about Supreme Court decisions.
After noting Roe vs. Wade, Palin was apparently unable to discuss any major court cases.
There was no verbal fumbling with this particular question as there was with some others, the aide said, but rather silence.
(*deep breath*)
Look, I'm no lawyer. Yes, I am married to one, but that makes me a lawyer just as much as it makes me male. What I know about the Supreme Court, I've learned in school.
But c'mon, any person who could possibly occupy the Oval Office should have SOME knowledge -- SOME opinion -- about major Supreme Court decisions. And by "any person who could possibly occupy the Oval Office", I'm including the Speaker of the House in that, along with the lone Cabinet member who is supposed to stay home during the yearly State of the Union address.
ANYONE involved in politics, particularly at the national level, should have SOME WORKING KNOWLEDGE of Supreme Court decisions. I'm not even talking about the 'minor' decisions -- just the MAIN ones.
Is this seriously too much to ask?
I am getting really sick and tired of posting about Sarah Palin -- but she keeps doing and saying things that people (read: voters) need to know about.
*You know, if Palin really is super duper anti-choice, she ought to know something about Griswold v. Connecticut since it laid the foundation for Roe v. Wade. Just sayin'.
