Why is McCain always in Columbus?
Every time I hear my hometown mentioned in the news, my ears perk up -- but it's always tied in with a McCain visit! I'm getting sick of it.
For example: When Obama was in Germany, McCain was at Schmidt's. On Sunday, McCain stood up a Downtown Columbus theater full of undecided voters, organized by the Sunday morning TV show "This Week" as a town hall style Q&A. Today, as the House voted against the bailout package, McCain praised the passage of the doomed bill at Capital University.
I kinda hate to tell him this, but . . . um . . . Columbus has turned blue. Sorry, John.
Mayor? Democrat serving his third term (and African-American too). City council? All Democrats. City auditor and city attorney? Democrats. Franklin County commissioners? All Democrats, along with the vast majority of the county government. In 2004, Kerry won Franklin County with an 8% lead over Bush.
German Village (home to Schmidt's) -- nope, not voting for you. There's no way in hell that Bexley (where Capital is located) is voting for you. And those undecided voters who got up super early on Sunday so they could be at the Great Southern Theatre at 7:30am, only to find out that the event had been canceled? My guess is that they're considerably less likely to vote for you now.
Know when to cut your losses, Senator. Let Central Ohio go.
(Then again, if you really want to keep spending all your time in an increasingly Democratic Columbus, go ahead . . . .)
